Real Perspective About the War

Posted at 11:30 PM

Maciej makes a good point about those likening Bush and America to totalitarianism, fascism, and imperialism as making a “grave insult to those who died or suffered from the real thing.” And he certainly has the credentials to make such a judgment. I’m moved reading his words and am reminded once again how conflicted I feel about this war.

And to think I was having trouble getting Maciej to open up and tell me what was on his mind during our 1-on-1 earlier today.

Angel Pre-empted?! Not!

Posted at 8:26 PM

According to Diane, Angel is being pre-empted tonight! It’s not as if the war wasn’t bad enough already, now the WB has to ruin my only distraction.

Update: I don’t know what kind of lame-ass TV station Diane and Darin have in L.A., but the good old WB20 here in the Bay Area has done the moral thing and is now showing Angel in its beautiful wide-screen goodness. Whew!

Maybe Angel Isn’t Pretending

Posted at 2:46 PM

After this week’s episode, it looks like my wife’s and my own theories about Angel pretending to be Angelus are probably wrong. While I can believe Angel might resort to such a charade to flush out the real power behind “The Beast,” I don’t think he would torture an innocent shopkeeper or pound on Faith so much.

Plus, I just read the synopsis for next week’s episode. Stupid me. I didn’t realize TV Guide would be so “spoilery.”

PowerBooks and Neck Trauma

Posted at 9:39 PM

So the new 12-inch PowerBooks finally came in last Wednesday. And although I set up my wife and son’s Mac that night, I didn’t have a chance to do my own until Friday night. Of course, it was going to take some time because I work at the Fruit Company and require large and painful amounts of software installed on my machine. And taking the time for all that was my first mistake.

Falling asleep on the couch is not the best thing you can do for yourself, particularly your spine. And when you slump over asleep wrapped around a PowerBook, bad things can happen to your neck. Which explains the crick in that vital connection when I woke up on Saturday.

But what really did me in was just horsing around with my son outside later that day. Just one of those stupid things that shouldn’t even hurt. We were standing on a curb, trying to push each other off. My son actually got me off balance and I fell, plunging a whole four inches to the ground. It must have been just enough to snap something in my already crooked neck.

Ouch. Big ouch. And that’s why I haven’t posted to my blog in so long.

What’s a Blivet?

The Jargon File has several appropriate meanings but the author prefers the common usage of the word.
